MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WHNT ) — The district four commissioner has been elected to serve as a member of the statewide association that represents Alabama’s 67 county governments.

Madison County Commissioner Phil Vandiver has been elected to serve as a member of the 2024-2025 Legislative Committee of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama (ACCA).

“Counties are a creation of the State, which means they can only do what the State authorizes them to do,” said Sonny Brasfield, ACCA Executive Director.

“For this reason, counties must maintain an incredibly close working relationship with the Legislature, which is why serving on this committee is a tremendous honor and responsibility,” Brasfield said.

The legislative committee is made up of a chairman and a representative from each county. Commissioner Vandiver will represent Madison County on the committee and work with six other committees to formulate ACCA’s legislative agenda for the 2025 Regular Session of the Alabama Legislature.

ACCA is a statewide organization that represents all 67 counties. It aims to promote improved county government services in Alabama, offers educational programs for county officials and their staff members.

It also aims to administer insurance programs for county governments and employees, offer legal advice and represent the interests of county government before state and federal organizations and agencies.
