Work release inmate hit by vehicle in Priceville

PRICEVILLE, Ala. ( WHNT ) — A work release inmate for the town of Priceville was hit by a passing vehicle while picking up trash on Thursday morning.

According to the Priceville Police Department (PPD), the incident took place near the edge of Highway 67 near the O’Reilly Auto Parts in Priceville around 7:20 a.m.

Investigators with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), also responded to the scene to gather information.

MCSO said the inmate was identified as James Earl Bright, 58.

PPD told News 19 that Bright was airlifted to a medical facility with severe injuries. Authorities added that he was alert when he was taken to the hospital but is facing a long road to recovery.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured and is not expected to face any charges.
