Victim identified after shooting at Athens apartment complex

ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) — The Limestone County Coroner has identified the man who died in a shooting at an Athens apartment Complex Saturday.

Limestone County Coroner Mike West told News 19 the victim has been identified as 33-year-old Ladevine Adre Crutcher from Athens.

The Athens Police Department (APD) said Saturday afternoon a man was detained following the shooting investigation at Fifth Avenue Apartments in Athens.

The Captain of APD, Brett Constable, says the man was detained for questioning about 20 minutes into the investigation. According to Constable, the investigation began after officers found a dead man in a grassy area at the complex following reports of a shooting.

At around the same time as the shooting, Constable says a man arrived at Athens Hospital in a private vehicle after being shot in the leg.

Constable says this injury happened in the same grassy area at the apartment complex. He says the man is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
