DECATUR, Ala. ( WHNT ) – Decatur City Schools said a seventh-grade student is facing disciplinary action following a threat that was made to a middle school Tuesday evening.

The administration at Austin Middle School was made aware of a potential threat during after-school hours on Tuesday, according to a DCS spokesperson.

DCS told News 19 that a seventh-grade student had sent a message on social media while holding “some sort of handgun.”

When the Decatur Police Department responded to the student’s home, he and his parents cooperated with officers. The student said he had gotten into a disagreement with his peers and was frustrated when the message was sent.

The school system said that this was an isolated incident and the individual was not allowed at school on Wednesday. DCS told News 19 that the next step is a legal and disciplinary phase.

Facing discipline? I should hope so. He should be expelled and punished and the parents should also be held accountable and responsible for the criminal acts of their juvenile child. If he’s not charged and suffers the consequences of his actions he will continue his criminal acts . Once parents are held accountable then other parents will take notice and hopefully will discourage their children from doing this. Rather than building more prisons the states should build Youth Detention Centers for these juvenile criminals . The parents are receiving checks & programs for these children those funds and programs could be used to fund the centers. All siblings removed from the home and parents are on their own rather than getting multiple checks and programs then failing the children. The judicial system has to hold all accountable!
