Decatur man arrested on trafficking charge after leading deputies on chase

MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. ( WHNT ) — A man was arrested after leading deputies on a chase in Morgan County.

According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), authorities were working a separate operation when the Sheriff’s Office’s Drug Enforcement Unit and Fugitive Unit tried to pull a vehicle over for failing to stop at a stop sign near 5th Avenue in Decatur.

MCSO said that the driver initially pulled off the road before driving off and leading agents on a chase.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver crashed the vehicle and then tried to run away. MCSO identified the driver as Paul Ray Jackson, 37, of Decatur.

Agents found that Jackson had a trafficking amount of cocaine, a handgun, and a large amount of money.

According to MCSO, Jackson was checked out by EMS and taken to the Decatur Morgan Hospital and then taken to the Morgan County Jail.

Jackson was charged with tampering with physical evidence, possession of marijuana, attempting to elude a police officer, dangerous drugs-drug trafficking.

His bond was set at $600,600.
