    Limestone County Coroner identifies victim who drowned at Sportsman Park Friday

    LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. ( WHNT ) — The Limestone County Coroner has identified the victim who drowned at Sportsmen Park Friday.

    Limestone County Coroner Mike West identified 17-year-old Gustavo Ernesto Oedonez Grave from Athens as the man who drowned Friday. West said Grave was at the pier in Sportsmen Park with his family when he jumped into the water to recover his phone.

    LCSO said deputies were on the scene of a drowning as of 6:48 p.m. Friday.

    The coroner said the man was swept up in the current and did not resurface.

    West said the initial call came in at 3:30 p.m. and the man’s body was recovered at 7:02 p.m.

    Authorities said the Limestone County Emergency Management Agency, Lauderdale County Emergency Management, Pleasant Grove Volunteer Fire Department, West Limestone Volunteer Fire Department Owens Volunteer Fire Department, The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), and the Florence Police Department’s Dive Team also responded to the scene.

    LCSO asked that residents avoid the Sportsman Park area and surrounding waterways as crews work in the area.
