LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) says a 13-year-old boy is in custody Friday night after taking a BB gun to the football game between Hatton and East Lawrence High School.

LCSO Chief Deputy Brian Covington said the 13-year-old male was taken into custody during the Hatton/East Lawrence game. The game took place at Hatton High School.

Covington said the juvenile is accused of bringing a BB gun to the game and brandishing it. He said that several spectators observed the event and the school resource officer (SRO) was notified.

The chief deputy said the SRO approached the juvenile, who was not brandishing the gun at the time, and conducted a pat down and located the gun.

Covington said the 13-year-old is facing charges of bringing a gun onto school property. The juvenile is being held in the custody of the Department of Youth Services
