LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. ( WHNT ) — A Limestone County veterinarian clinic stepped in Saturday to help with adoptions for the closing Athens-Limestone Animal Shelter.

When Family Pet Care’s staff first heard of the closing, manager Nicki Emerson said they wanted to help. That led to them doing something they’d never done before, an adoption event.

“We decided we could just you know have an adoption event here, we had never done that before, I don’t think any of us have done that before,” said Emerson. “We called and asked if that was something that we could help with, and they said that would be great.”

The staff went over to the shelter and brought several cats and dogs to the clinic in hopes of them getting adopted.

While there are still a large number of animals that need to be adopted, the hope is that every animal will find a home before the closing on Oct. 1.

The Athens-Limestone County Animal Shelter told News 19 that they won’t euthanize the animals if they are still at the shelter after they close.
