COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Colbert County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is warning residents about scammers who are pretending to be with the sheriff’s office.

CCSO said it received several reports on Monday of residents getting phone calls from individuals posing as representatives of the sheriff’s office.

According to authorities, the scammers were requesting personal information or money from residents while pretending it was an official communication from CCSO.

The sheriff’s office said it and its employees will never ask for personal information or money over the phone. CCSO said any calls claiming to be from the sheriff’s office and asking for those things are a scam and not a legitimate contact from the sheriff’s office.

Residents should never give any personal information or money to any person claiming to with the sheriff’s office over the phone. CCSO said residents should not give any personal or financial information, and they should instead get off the phone and call the sheriff’s office directly at (256) 383-0741.

If you believe you have been targeted by a scam, you should report the incident to local law enforcement.

I think when a scammer is caught, they should do life in prison without the possibility of parole that solved the problem.
