    Fire at Huntsville homeless camp possibly caused by explosion of propane tank

    HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ( WHNT ) — Huntsville Fire and Rescue (HFR) crews responded to a fire at a homeless camp on Tuesday afternoon.

    According to a Huntsville Fire and Rescue spokesperson, an outdoor fire took place at the homeless camp on Derrick Street NW near Hall Avenue NW.

    HFR said that two trucks are on the scene and that the fire has been knocked down.

    A News 19 crew on the scene said that multiple Huntsville Police cars could be seen in the area along with HEMSI.

    The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) said that officers patrolling the area noticed a large plume of smoke and that the cause of the fire is due to a possible explosion of a propane tank.

    According to HPD, the call about the fire came in around 12:13 p.m. and about five to seven tenths of the camp has burned.

    According to the department, there is no reports of any injuries.
