MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. ( WHNT ) — A man has been sentenced to 21 years in prison after being convicted for home repair fraud charges in May.

According to the Morgan County District Attorney’s Office, 63-year-old Johnny Ray Jordan was convicted of two counts of home repair fraud and two counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument.

36-year-old man sentenced for abusing Decatur child

Those charges stemmed from reports made by several Decatur-area residents in April and May 2022. Those residents had contacted police about home repair fraud at the time, in fear they were being scammed.

Jordan was arrested and charged in connection to those reports in June 2022.

Before Jordan’s trial, the state gave notice of its intent to seek a departure from the “presumptive sentencing guidelines” which would have had Jordan face a maximum sentence of 123 months in prison.

Due to his long history of similar offenses across North Alabama that have defrauded victims of tens of thousands of dollars, the state asked the court to deviate from those guidelines and sentence Jordan as a habitual felony offender with three prior felony offenses.

Following a hearing Tuesday, Judge Brown sentenced Jordan to 21 years in prison.

“We are pleased with the sentence in this case and believe that Judge Brown gave Jordan the justice he deserves for his longstanding practice of defrauding innocent victims for personal gain,” said Assistant District Attorney Joe Lewis.
