City of Athens installs cameras on garbage trucks

ATHENS, Ala. ( WHNT ) — The City of Athens sanitation department has installed cameras on city garbage trucks.

According to officials, the cameras will allow supervisors to review footage related to calls made regarding missed pickups or damaged property.

To avoid missing pickups and potential damage to equipment and property sanitation officials are reminding the public of the following:

• On your pickup day, please have bins on the curb by 6 a.m.
• Do not place bins by other objects, such as mailboxes.
• Do not overflow the bins or place objects beside bins.
• If you have multiple bins, keep enough space between them for the automated arm to grab each bin without knocking one over.
