    Emergency Declaration approved for Alabama for Hurricane Helene

    ALABAMA, ( WHNT ) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced President Joe Biden has approved an emergency declaration for Alabama as the state looks to be impacted by Hurricane Helene.

    FEMA said the declaration makes federal disaster assistance available to the state to help supplement response efforts due to emergency conditions caused by Hurricane Helene. The declaration is set as beginning on Sept. 22.

    Helene strengthens to Category 4 hurricane ahead of landfall

    The counties listed in the declaration include several counties in North Alabama.

    Authorities said federal funding is available to eligible governments and nonprofits on a cost-sharing basis for emergency protective measures limited to direct federal assistance and reimbursement for mass care including evacuation and shelter support in the following counties: Barbour, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Coffee, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, DeKalb, Etowah, Geneva, Henry, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lee, Limestone, Macon, Madison, Marshall, Morgan, Randolph, Russell and Tallapoosa.

    FEMA said federal funding for protective measures including direct federal assistance is available for Houston County and funding is available for measures limited to direct federal assistance for Baldwin, Butler, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe and Washington counties.

    y'all forgot several counties. Doesn't make sense to mention Lauderdale, Madison, etc and colbert county is smack in between... tf?
