GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. ( WHNT ) — The Guntersville Police Department (GPD) says Highway 431 is back open after a building was damaged.

According to GPD, US Hwy 431/Florida Short Route/Gunter Ave was temporarily closed for southbound traffic heading towards Guntersville across the Tennessee River Veterans Memorial Bridge. GPD said all lanes were back open as of 3:08 p.m.

Police said that southbound traffic will be diverted onto Lurleen B Wallace Dr, then onto Sunset Dr, and finally onto AL Hwy 69/Henry St.

Guntersville Police said that the detour will remain in place until further notice due to a damaged building on Gunter Ave near the Marshall County Courthouse.

According to the department, debris from the damaged building has obstructed the roadway which is the cause for the detour.

Multiple agencies including the Alabama Department of Transportation are working to solve the issue.

Officials are telling drivers to expect delays in the area at this time.

The detour will only affect southbound traffic on US Hwy 431 traveling into Guntersville. Northbound traffic from Albertville will not be impacted.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, the Marshall County Courthouse will experience a two-hour delay for opening due to the fallen debris.

Please use caution in the area.
