MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (WHNT) — The Muscle Shoals Fire Department has just opened a brand new state-of-the-art fire station, and it creates a brand new opportunity for the county.

The Engine 4 station is located on Old Highway 20 near Gargis Lane. It has a brand new kitchen, rooms for the firefighters to sleep — with their own bathrooms — a safe house bunker room for severe weather and even a brand new fire truck to add to their fleet.

Aside from the bells and whistles, this new station will also house the very first baby box in Colbert County.

Judge Chad Smith came up with the idea of having a baby box at this location.

MSFD Public Information Officer Brian Stafford says the department needed this engine in this particular location as the city continues to grow.

“This area is just a little further for response time, in the years past, and the new development and more of the commercial properties went in, so the highway is super busy, we have a ton of people that drive through this area, so it was a 7 or 8 minute response time from downtown so we just needed to cover this area and now the guys are just a few minutes from anywhere around this location” Stafford said.

The station will host a public open house on Thursday, October 3rd, at 3:30 p.m.
