    Skateboarder hit by vehicle in Decatur

    DECATUR, Ala. ( WHNT ) — The Decatur Police Department (DPD) says a man was hit by a vehicle while riding a motorized skateboard Saturday afternoon.

    According to police, officers, Decatur Fire and Decatur Morgan EMS were dispatched to the area of Sandlin Road SW and Bellmeade Street SW. at around 1:03 p.m. in response to a wreck.

    DPD said a vehicle was going south on Sandlin Road SW when the man entered the roadway from an alley on his motorized skateboard, causing a collision.

    Authorities said the skateboarder was taken to Huntsville Hospital by ambulance where he remains in critical condition.

    DPD said the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene after the incident and that the roadway had reopened.

    The investigation is ongoing.

    Not surprising. I saw 2 this week in Athens nearly hit. They were trying to cross a street against a red traffic light.
