TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WHNT ) — After a long day of football, Alabama held on to win it at home against the Georgia Bulldogs, earning new head coach Kalen DeBoer his first SEC win.

After a hard-fought battle, the Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Georgia Bulldogs, 41-34 under the lights at Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Starting the day, former Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban sat at the College Gameday desk, but this time as an analyst. Each week, College Gameday brings in a special guest picker who joins the team at the desk.

For the Georgia matchup, College Gameday picked none other than Mrs. Terry Saban (Mrs. Terry) to be the guest picker.

Both Mrs. Terry and Nick picked Alabama to win the game. Lee Corso’s mascot head pick was for the Crimson Tide as well.

The University of Alabama and the University of Georgia have a long history of hard-fought battles.

The rivalry started in 1895 when the Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide played each other for the first time. This game was hosted in Columbus, Georgia, and the Bulldogs won the first matchup 6-30.

This game would start the long history of the teams playing each other 73 times over nearly 129 years. Alabama’s record against Georgia is 43 wins, 26 losses and four ties.

In the Saban era, Alabama lost to Georgia twice: in 2007 and 2021. The 2007 game was actually Saban’s first SEC game matchup as the head coach of Alabama. College Gameday made its way to Tuscaloosa for this game. The Crimson Tide lost this game, 23-26.

The stage feels reminiscent because, in this new head coach era, DeBoar will coach his first SEC game against Georgia in Tuscaloosa. And just like old times, College Gameday traveled to the Quad with Saban at the desk.

Georgia has won 42 straight regular season games. That streak ended on September 28.
