MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. ( WHNT ) — The Muscle Shoals Police Department (MSPD) says a Nashville woman was killed in a hit-and-run Saturday night.

According to MSPD, Jamya B. Shanes, 25, of Nashville, Tennessee, was struck by a truck on Geroge Wallace Blvd between Patriots Dr and 6th St. around 7:35 p.m. Police say Shanes was pronounced dead at the scene by the Colbert County Coroner’s Office.

According to authorities, witnesses told police they were walking with Shanes when a dark-colored truck hit Shanes and fled the scene. MSPD, with the assistance of the Tuscumbia Police Department, began searching the area for a truck matching the description given by the witnesses.

During the investigation, officers said that after getting a better description of the truck and license plate number, they went to an address in Tuscumbia where they found a vehicle that had heavy damage on the front passenger side and hood. Authorities said they also found what looked to be human hair on the vehicle.

Officers arrested Ronald Alfred Fontaine, 74, of Tuscumbia, and took him to the MSPD. Fontaine is currently being held pending a warrant of arrest for charges related to leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death.
