DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. ( WHNT ) — A man accused of attempting to kidnap a child near a Piggly Wiggly was arrested in DeKalb County.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), deputies were dispatched to the area of Piggly Wiggly and Rains Court Apartments regarding an attempted kidnapping on Friday, September 27.

Authorities said that the Collinsville Police Department arrived on the scene and began to speak to family members and the child who was involved.

On Sunday, September 29, officers with the Crossville Police Department responded to an unrelated call at an apartment complex on Truman Lane.

According to authorities, while officers were speaking to people on the scene of the incident, one of the officers noticed that a man matched the description given from the attempted kidnapping just days ago.

After further investigation, DeKalb County investigators arrived on the scene and began to speak with the man identified as Cordell Quenton Brand, 29, of Gadsden.

DCSO said that Brand was arrested on the scene for illegal possession of prescription drugs.  He was taken to the DeKalb County Detention Center.

After interviewing Brand at the DeKalb County Detention Center, it was determined by Dekalb County Investigators that he was the man who grabbed the child on Friday, September 27.

Brand was also charged with unlawful imprisonment-2nd degree and is awaiting a hearing for his bond to be set for that charge.

He was given a $1,500 bond for the illegal possession of prescription drugs.

“Thank you to the Collinsville Police Department for their assistance as well as vigilant members of the community in leading to the identification and arrest of Cordell Quenton Brand.  Without all of you, this arrest would not have been possible. God Bless!”
