    City of Huntsville cleaning up Derrick Street camp as residents move to temporary location

    HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ( WHNT ) — People staying at the Derrick Street camp have been given a two-week notice to vacate the property following a fire that took place on September 17.

    According to the City of Huntsville, the fire led to debris and hazardous material being on the property which will be removed by Huntsville City officials.

    Anyone living or on the property must leave by 6 a.m. on October 16.

    Officials said that anyone with personal property, possessions, or items on the property will be responsible for removing the items from the camp.

    Any personal property, possessions, or items left on the property after 6 a.m. on October 16 will be considered abandoned and then removed and discarded.

    Volunteers are being recruited to help assist anyone who may require help.

    The City of Huntsville has designated a temporary location where tents can be placed which is located at the adjacent parcel on Derrick Street between the existing camp and Holmes Avenue.
