Police investigating after body found in Florence

FLORENCE, Ala. ( WHNT ) – A body was found in Florence on Friday, according to the police department.

The Florence Police Department said they responded to a call about a “deceased individual” in the area of Sweetwater Creek. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a body near the intersection of North Patton Street and Sweetwater Avenue.

FPD said they believe the person has been dead for a prolonged period of time. Officers on the scene told News 19’s Whitney Leibold they thought the remains could have been there for a week or so.

The cause of death and the person’s identity are still under investigation. The body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.
