HPD said the suspect possibly used a handheld taser on the victim and then took the victim’s belongings.

Officers set a perimeter in an attempt to locate the suspect, however, HPD said they were unsuccessful.

HPD said they believed this to be an isolated incident and that the victim suffered minor injuries.

A resident in Providence told News 19 what they heard around the time HPD had been called to the scene.

As I was walking in the neighborhood around sunset, I heard a man yelling and thought it was rather strange because it wasn’t so much words but just yelling. I knew it had to be nearby either on Meeting Street or on the greenway close by but only noticed 1 person coming off the greenway but they weren’t in a hurry nor did they seem to be upset and yelling.

A few minutes later I saw a man walking down Meeting Street talking on his phone and as he got closer, I could hear him talking about 1 suspect and that he had lost sight of that suspect.  After the robbery this summer on the greenway, I felt very uneasy about all the commotion and quickly walked home. Before I could get all the way home, there were sirens in the distance and then police driving quickly through the neighborhood.
