Huntsville Police to break ground on new crime scene investigation facility

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ( WHNT ) — The Huntsville Police Department (HPD), announced that a groundbreaking ceremony is taking place for a new crime scene investigation facility on Friday, October 11.

According to the Huntsville Police Department, the facility will be located at 616 Wheeler Ave. NW in Huntsville.

HPD’s Criminal Investigation Division is set to be housed in a brand new 14,000-square-foot building complete with labs, office space, evidence processing areas, and vehicle processing bays.

Huntsville Police told News 19 that the project also includes a separate, climate-controlled 13,500-square-foot facility for vehicle and evidence storage.

“This project is not just about meeting our current needs; it’s about planning for the future,” Chief Giles said. “With more space and resources, we will be able to expand, grow our team and continue to enhance our capabilities as the city grows.”

The groundbreaking ceremony is set to take place on Friday, October 11 at 10. a.m.
