HUNTSVILLE, Ala (WHNT) — Many of the biggest names in country music rocked the stage in North Alabama to honor a legend: Dean Dillon.

“I’ve been listening to his music for a long, long time, and if it wasn’t for him, a lot of these artists wouldn’t be where they are today,” said fan Wyatt Hill.

Dillon is the songwriter behind dozens of number-one hits.

“H’s wrote them from the oldies all the way up to the new ones right now, so Dean Dillon- he’s a classic,” said Wyatt.

Crafting songs for artists like George strait, Cody Johnson, Ronnie Dunn, and Vince Gill to just name few.

Fans like Wyatt Hill just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to attend a concert like this.

“I thought this was probably a once in a lifetime chance to get to see him and everybody together,” he said.

The legendary line up even brought fans from across the pond.

    Dillion’s legacy extends beyond music.

“Dean Dillon started our local cancer charity, which is primarily for breast cancer, but now is for all cancer: Gunnison tough,” said Michael Dawson.

Dawson is a board member for a Colorado cancer association spearheaded by Dillon.

“He’s made such a difference in our little community’s world by what he’s done for cancer and our patients and our people in the valley,” he said.

Dillon made sure there were plenty of charitable efforts this week.

There was a silent auction at the concert for signed guitars and memorabilia from many country artists. All of the proceeds went to charity concerts for a cause.

He also donated 100 new guitars to three local school districts- one of those being Madison county.

The show broke the record for the highest-grossing concert in VBC history, and Mayor Tommy battle even named October 9 Dean Dillon Day.
