MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) — To say that Austin and James Clemens have dominated Class 7A Region 4 in recent years would be a bit of an understatement.

One of these schools has won every title since 2016.

It looks like one of those programs will win it once again in 2024.

An Austin win in Week Eight would give the Black Bears the title. If James Clemens wins, they’ll still have to beat Albertville next week to claim their second straight region championship.

So who comes out on top?

Black Bears starting things off, in the red zone, Gavin Fuqua takes the direct snap and pushes through – muscling his way into the endzone for the first touchdown of the ballgame and Austin takes a 7-0 lead.

Things escalated quickly over in Madison – Austin took a 21-0 lead and the Jets gotta get going.

In a great position to do so here, knocking on the goal line. Ty Doughty’s in there somewhere, and he crosses the goal line for the first six of the game for the Jets, 21-7 game.

Black Bears offense is back on the field with less than two minutes to go in the first half. JL Davis rolls to his right and lets it fly to Kenneth Joshua who is wide open in the endzone making the score 28-7 Austin.

But JC never backs down– the Jets tie this game up at 28 all in the second half this one coming down to the wire.

Austin’s knocking on the goal line but JC’s defense holds them out of the endzone– so Black Bears go to kick to take the lead – Hayden Wynn kicks the go-ahead 18-yard field with .4 to play.

Austin wins the Class 7A Region 4 championship with a 31-28 victory.
