DES MOINES – Jasper County suffered major damage from this mornings severe storms. Thousands of residents were left with downed powerlines leaving them without power. As of 2:00 pm there were still 1,500 MidAmerican customers in the county without power.

Jasper County Emergency Management immediately got to work clearing downed trees and replacing downed power lines.

Jamey Robinson, the Director of Jasper County Emergency Management, said that he expects power to be restored to most residents by this afternoon.

“We’re staying in close contact with Mid-American. One of our big concerns was because of the extensive damage to the lines and stuff that it may have been a couple days. They are hopeful to get a majority of the power on by this afternoon which will kind of change things for us. If this was going to be a two or three day thing we would have to start looking at opening shelters in multiple communities,” Robinson said.
