Washington head coach Jedd Fisch has his fair share of Kinnick Stadium horror stories as an assistant coach in the Big Ten.

“We were the number two team in the country in 2016 and we were 9-0 and went into Kinnick Stadium and lost,” Fisch said. “When I was at Minnesota we played Iowa and lost 21-7 and lost the trophy game there. I don’t know if our players understand how hard of a place that is to play in.”

Huskies running back Jonah Coleman learned that lesson through the new video game.

“I didn’t know that their stadium was this loud as it is until I played NCAA, and they rated their stadium like sixth,” Coleman said. “I was playing someone that used Iowa and I was like, ‘They are this loud to where I can’t change my play?'”

It’s also the stars in the black and gold that have caught the attention of Iowa’s new conference rival.

“Jay Higgins, linebacker for Iowa — he’s someone I watched on tape,” Huskies linebacker Carson Bruener said. “He’s had a lot of great career stats, especially his single-season stats last year.”

The player that stands out to Jonah Coleman is Lukas Van Ness, who understood quickly why he earned the nickname ‘Hercules’ in Iowa City.

“His body was crazy,” Coleman said. “I was like, ‘Dang who is this?’ He went to Iowa; they were showing the film like he just plays hard.”

The showdown between Washington and Iowa is scheduled for October 12. There has not yet been an official kickoff time released, but Jedd Fisch spilled the beans that this one will be an early one.

“I understand it’s going to be a ‘Big Noon’ game,” Fisch revealed. “That will be 9 a.m. our time. We’re looking forward to it and we know what a great program Coach Ferentz has.”
