ALTOONA, Iowa — Adventureland is celebrating turning 50 this summer and it is doing so in a big way this weekend.

The Altoona amusement park opened on August 16th, 1974. During the three-night celebration, the park is hosting what it says is Iowa’s largest drone show. It will run from August 16-18 and start at about 9:10 each evening. Adventureland will also extend its hours during those days, opening at 10 a.m. and operating rides until 9:00 p.m. The park will remain open until the drone show is over.

That’s not the only extension to the park’s season.

“So we’re actually extending our season with three extra days, August 19th, 20th and 21st. So come out and enjoy the park. We’ll be open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. those three days. So it’s a great way to come out. Summer’s still here. I know summer’s winding down, but we’re looking to expand with extra hours, extra days, and this new big drone show that we have on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday,” said Alex Payne, Palace Entertainment’s Regional Public Relations Manager.

Coming up this fall at Adventureland is the Octoberfest over-21 event on September 14th as well as Phantom Fall Fest for Halloween that starts September 21st.
