DE SOTO, Iowa This year marks ten years of the Clear the Shelters campaign. Over the years, the effort has helped find homes for rescue animals across the country. We’re teaming up with rescues and shelters here at home.

This week, we introduce you to a pair of poodles at Aheinz57 that share a family bond.

“Oh yeah, we’re full. We are definitely full.” said Amy Heinz as she walked through kennel after kennel of barking dogs.

Aheinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport had to make some room for two new dogs this summer. Peppy is a 7-year-old poodle and her 2-year-old daughter, MJ is a poodle shepherd mix. The pair wasn’t alone when they showed up at the shelter.

Both had a litter of puppies. Now that the little ones have been adopted, it’s time for them to find a new home.

“They’re good dogs, they’re potty trained. You know, they’d make a fine addition to anybody’s family,” said Heinz. You’ve got the calmer dog for somebody who just wants to sit on the couch and then you send the kids out to play with this one.

The friendly mother-daughter duo came to the rescue together and despite the challenge of finding a family to adopt two dogs, the bonded pair will leave that way.

“You want to keep them together. If that what they’ve known in their life is being together, then that’s how it should stay.” explained Heinz.

Life in a shelter is stressful, whether it’s home for a few days or years. The sad reality is not every dog will be adopted, but with your help, these two “good girls” will be leaving the shelter together.
