    Pleasant Hill police release more details about body found in Des Moines River

    PLEASANT HILL, Iowa — Investigators are working to identify a body that was discovered in the Des Moines River in Pleasant Hill Thursday night.

    According to Pleasant Hill Fire Chief Jamie Xayavong, people fishing in the area of the Vandalia Boat ramp saw what appeared to be a body and called 911 around 7:15 p.m.

    The Pleasant Hill Police Department issued a news release Friday to provide more information about the case. PHPD, Pleasant Hill Fire and Rescue, and the Polk County Medical Examiner worked together to retrieve the body from the river.

    PHPD said the body is that of an unidentified white male, approximately 6′ and 250 to 275 pounds.

    Police are asking anyone who may have information about the case to contact them at 515-265-1444.
