Crashes on I-35/80 cause traffic slowdown Thursday morning

URBANDALE, Iowa – Traffic on I-35/80 in Urbandale was slow going Thursday morning due to multiple accidents.

The westbound lanes of I-35/80 were completely blocked between Northwest 86th Street and Merle Hay Road because of a crash involving a semi shortly after 8:00 a.m. The Iowa State Patrol shared photos of the semi on its side, saying it was a property damage crash.

A detour was in place for westbound traffic and around 9:45 a.m., some lanes of westbound I-35/80 were re-opened.

That same stretch of the interstate in the eastbound lanes also experienced a slowdown because of another accident that blocked the two left lanes of traffic. That crash has since been cleared.

This is an area of construction and lane shifts that has seen multiple crashes recently.
