DES MOINES, Iowa — March to the Capitol in Des Moines has been memorializing the victims and heroes of 9/11 for almost a decade in Central Iowa.

On the 23rd anniversary of the terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of nearly three thousand individuals, a West Des Moines firefighter will be leading Iowans on a 21 mile walk. The 21 miles signifies a 21 gun salute.

Michael Dunkin is one of the organizers of the walk. Dunkin wears all of his gear on the march to the Iowa state capitol. He joined Today in Iowa Sunday 10 days ahead of the event to encourage people to participate and remember those who lost their lives.
