DES MOINES, Iowa — Every day is a good day to donate blood, but around holiday weekends blood donations are needed at critical levels.

Shay Willis with LifeServe Blood Center joined Today in Iowa Sunday to highlight that the supply of O negative and B negative blood types at LifeServe is at a critical level. But any blood types are encouraged to come out and donate.

175 hospitals in Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, and South Dakota all receive blood from LifeServe; and the pinch around holiday seasons can put the blood center in a bind.

16 and 17-year-olds can donate with a parent consent, and the center asks that you are well hydrated and fed before donating.
