    One in custody following ‘suspicious’ fire in Marshalltown

    MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — One person is in custody following a ‘suspicious’ fire in Marshalltown over the weekend the Marshalltown Fire Department said.

    On Saturday at about 2:30 p.m. the Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire in the 1500 block of Summit Street. When firefighters arrived on scene they found two fires inside the home, one in the basement and one in a first-floor bathroom. The fire was extinguished.

    According to the fire department, the resident and her dog were able to safely exit the home. No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the resident.

    The Marshalltown Fire Department Fire Marshal classified the fire as suspicious. A potential suspect has been taken into custody by the Marshalltown Police Department. The suspect’s name has not been released.
