    6,500 Iowa households receive $63M in Individual Assistance so far

    SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — About $63 million from FEMA has been distributed to Iowa residents after flooding, severe storms, and tornadoes.

    FEMA has provided $63 million in Individual Assistance to 6,500 approved households who suffered damage from flooding, severe storms, and tornadoes , the federal agency told KCAU 9. Those numbers are through Monday, Sep. 9.

    In Sioux City, 937 approved households were provided a total of $18.1 million of Individual Assistance.

    The Iowa counties where households can apply for individual assistance are Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Humboldt, Lyon, Monona, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pottawattamie, Scott, Sioux, and Woodbury counties.

    FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program has also paid $10.2 million in claims for Iowa policyholders. This comes from about 200 claims that have been submitted. FEMA said the money will help survivors with home repairs, paying for a temporary place to live, and other serious needs not covered by insurance.

    FEMA also approved more than $5.5 million in grants and loans to 926 applications in four South Dakota counties as of last week.

Lastly, there are Disaster Recovery Centers in impacted communities.
