    4-year-old dies after accidental shooting in Mahaska County, officials say

    MAHASKA COUNTY, Iowa — A Mahaska County four-year-old is dead following an accidental shooting on Wednesday.

    At around 2 p.m. personnel with the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office and Mahaska Health Hospital responded to a report of an individual with a gunshot wound in the 2600 block of 250th Street, just east of Oskaloosa.

    When first responders arrived on scene they found a four-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite lifesaving efforts, the child died at the scene.

    According to police, the child’s injuries were the result of an accidental discharge.

    The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations, the Iowa State patrol, and the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office are assisting in the investigation.
