DES MOINES, Iowa — The search for a suspect who led an Iowa State Patrol trooper on a chase Thursday morning in southwest Des Moines and then abandoned the vehicle and took off on foot has been suspended.

Sgt. Alex Dinkla of the Iowa State Patrol tells WHO 13 a trooper tried to make a traffic stop near Highway 5 and Fleur Drive around 8:00 a.m. The driver refused to stop and a pursuit began.

A post from the Des Moines Police Department on X said the driver abandoned the vehicle in the 2500 block of County Line Road. The driver took off on foot and DMPD officers assisted with security at the scene. A K9 was also deployed at the scene to search for the suspect.

Sgt. Paul Parizek of the DMPD told WHO 13 that the search was near the trailer park west of Fleur Drive and north of Highway 5. He said the search was called off around 9:50 a.m.

A description of the suspect has not been released.
