One dead, two critically wounded in early morning shooting at Court Ave

DES MOINES, IOWA — Des Moines Police are investigating the city’s 9th homicide investigation of 2024.

On Sunday morning at 2:06 a.m., officers patrolling Court Avenue Entertainment District heard gunfire in the area of Court Avenue and Water Street. Officers responded on foot to the 200 block of Water Street and found three people with gunshot injuries.

One person was deceased at the scene, a 29-year-old male. Two other persons, both were adult males, are in critical condition and were transported to local hospitals by Des Moines Department Fire medics. Treatment for those two critically injured is ongoing.

Three firearms in total were recovered at the scene. Des Moines Police Department detectives are investigating the incident, interviewing witnesses, examining evidence and following leads.

According to witnesses, there was a verbal argument between the three men, followed by gunfire. Police say at this time there is no indication of outstanding suspects.

Des Moines Police are continuing to investigate and additional information will be shared as it becomes available for release.
