Pella teen reportedly charged after making threats, bringing weapon to school

PELLA, Iowa — A 16-year-old Pella student was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly making threats to shoot up the high school and having a homemade weapon on school grounds.

An email from Pella Community School District Superintendent Greg Ebeling obtained by WHO 13 said that a Pella High School staff member was made aware of a student who made threatening statements against the school. The email states the Pella Police Department responded to the high school and took a 16-year-old student into custody.

The Marion County Tribune posted a press release from the Pella Police Department about the incident on Facebook . According to the post, officers discovered that the student threatened to a shooting at the school. During the investigation officers also found that the student was in possession of a homemade throwing star, the post states.

According to KNIA-KRLS , the student was charged with threat of terrorism, harassment, and carrying a dangerous weapon by a minor. The student was referred to juvenile court.

So far this week four people have been arrested and charged for threatening violence at schools in Norwalk , Centerville , and Perry .
