Nathaniel Bevers-McGivney, 21, is currently charged with abuse of corpse-fail to disclose known location in the case. A criminal complaint says he was located with some of the victim’s possessions and “was covered in apparent blood.” More charges are expected in the case.

The investigation is centered around the small Calhoun County town of Farnhamville, about 25 miles southwest of Fort Dodge.

According to the criminal complaint, a woman reported her daughter missing to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office shortly before 11:00 Sunday night. While out searching the girl’s mother and sister found Bevers-McGivney with what appeared to be blood on him and in possession of the missing daughter’s personal items, including her scooter. When law enforcement asked about the blood, he requested to speak to a lawyer. Police detained and transported him to the Carroll County Jail.

Shortly after 9:00 a.m. Monday, the body of the missing teen was located. The complaint said the location of the body suggests Bevers-McGivney intentionally tried to hide the body in order to conceal a crime.

Bevers-McGivney will likely make his first court appearance on Tuesday, where additional charges may be revealed.

Officials have not released the name of the victim.

The Southeast Valley School District issued a statement on Monday canceling all activities and practices, “In light of the tragic events involving a Jaguar High School student…” The district also said, “Counseling services are available for anyone in need of support during this challenging time. Please reach out to your attendance center office for a referral to these services. Our thoughts are with the family and friends affected by this tragedy.”
