POLK COUNTY, Iowa — Authorities have released the names of the three people who died in a two-vehicle crash east of Ankeny Sunday night.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened at the intersection of NE 46th Street and NE 94th Avenue just before 8:00 p.m. when a northbound vehicle on NE 46th failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with an eastbound vehicle on NE 94th Avenue.

Sixteen-year-old Chad Dittmer of Elkhart was driving the northbound vehicle, according to the PCSO.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was 38-year-old Kolby Drees of Bondurant. His passenger was 34-year-old Sara Tourte of Altoona.

All three people died at the scene of the crash.

The PCSO says evidence and statements by witnesses to the accident indicate speed was a factor in the crash as well as the northbound vehicle failing to stop at the stop sign.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing.

Not defending his actions… because had he not been speeding he may have seen the stop sign. But that area is super dark… no street lights…. It’s like a country road. No flashing light above the stop sign or those road rumble strips to warn you. It’s def sad! It’s always so devastating to hear of something that could have been prevented by driving right.

A sixteen year old kid, speeding and running a stop sign, ending the lives of two innocent victims. So sad.
