POLK COUNTY, Iowa — A man was injured early Friday morning in rural Polk County after officials say a firework exploded in his hand.

It happened shortly before 3:00 a.m. at a property in the 9000 block of SE 56th Avenue near Runnells, according to Captain Ryan Evans of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The Runnells Fire Department and deputies with the PCSO responded.

The injury was not life-threatening and Capt. Evans said the man was possibly missing part of a finger from the incident.

    No other details were released.
