    Des Moines man facing OWI charges after leading troopers on chase, ISP says

    DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man is facing multiple charges after leading troopers on a chase Friday morning the Iowa State Patrol said.

    At around 11 a.m. an Iowa State Patrol trooper attempted to stop a vehicle after the driver, identified as 44-year-old Demarious Carey, showed signs of potential impairment near the I-235 and University Avenue offramp, the state patrol said. Carey refused to stop for the trooper which initiated a pursuit.

    During the pursuit Carey allegedly threw a firearm out of the vehicle, ISP said. Carey eventually left the vehicle near the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Euclid Avenue and fled the area on foot. A short foot chase ensued until Carey was apprehended near the intersection of 4th Avenue and Euclid Avenue, the ISP said.

    Carey was booked into the Polk County Jail and faces charges of Operating While Intoxicated, Eluding, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, as well as narcotics charges.
