Sixty Forward Center new vision for aging in Ames

AMES, Iowa — The community of Ames gathered to cut the ribbon Saturday on the 60 Forward Center.

This new $10 million senior facility is a partnership between the City of Ames, Mary Greeley Medical Center, and Heartland of Story County. It was built with a $300,000 Cares Act Grant through the Story County Board of Supervisors. Many donors contributed to make the project a reality, including ISU Women’s Basketball Coach, Bill Fennelly. He and his wife, Deb recently got a tour of the new facility.

“We walked out. We got the car no one talked for a couple minutes as we were stunned, overwhelmed how beautiful it was, and how well it was done,” said Fennelly, who attended the ribbon cutting.

“This facility wouldn’t be here without some generous donations,” said Dr. Leo Milliman, Heartland Board Chair. “If there’s anything any of us say today, it’s thank you to all those who donated to this project.”

Sixty Forward Center is designed to bring together things that would enhance life for seniors in the area. There is a restaurant called Bistro, serving food and drink. There is a bowling alley, and a fitness room. There are many gathering spots. There is also an adult day-care center. The senior center will hold classes on cancer, Medicare, and other topics of interest to seniors.
