DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is back in the state after a 10-day trade mission.

Gov. Reynolds went on the trip with Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and Iowa Finance Authority Executive Director Debbie Durham. Those three and the other members of the delegation involved in the trip held a press conference on Wednesday at the Iowa State Capitol.

The officials discussed the benefits of meeting with members of India’s parliament and business leaders in Mumbai and Delhi.

After the press conference Reynolds took questions, starting off with when she would fill the lieutenant governor vacancy.

Where are fall colors starting to appear in Iowa?

“We’re gathering names,” said Reynolds. “I probably won’t do anything until after the election. Really. You know, I found out right before I left to go on the trade mission. I didn’t have a lot of advance notice. And so, you know, we just got back from that. We’re catching up from that. But it will probably be, you know, and that’s not that far away.”

Reynolds said that she would meet with different contenders to get an idea of what their vision is and how it would fit in with her office’s work.

She also discussed the port worker strike and how it would impact the average Iowa family.

“It’s going to impact all of us. You know, that’s I think they estimated $5 billion a day that that’s going to, the economic impact of it. And so, you know, it’s important that we have a president and vice president doing everything they can to get everybody to the table and to continue the conversation. I mean, I think it’s a reflection, again, of what we’ve seen with the Harris-Biden inflation,” said Reynolds. “I mean, that is what they (port workers) are saying, that because of the inflation that they’re experiencing, like every single family, you know, across this country, every single Iowan.”

Reynolds also took questions about the uptick in reports from the School Safety Bureau’s app, that takes tips from Iowans on potential threats in Iowa schools.
