DES MOINES, Iowa — One person died in a fire late Sunday night in Des Moines’ Waterbury neighborhood.

Des Moines Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek said emergency responders were called to a four-plex residence at 500 Polk Boulevard on a report of a fire around 10:56 p.m. Firefighters with the Des Moines Fire Department were able to contain and extinguish the fire in the lower left unit.

After the fire was out, a 68-year-old male resident was found deceased. Police have not released his name.

Sgt. Parizek said at this time there’s no indication the fire was the result of criminal action, but the DMPD and DMFD will be investigating.

More details will be shared as they become available.
