DES MOINES, Iowa — The dry spell experienced by much of Iowa has resulted in burn bans for half of the state’s counties.

According to the National Weather Service’s data , most areas of central Iowa have experienced very little rainfall. In September the Des Moines area only saw .60 inches of rainfall, which is significantly lower than the amount of precipitation normally expected (around three inches) for this time of year.

The drought conditions have caused much of the state to be placed under burn bans. According to the State Fire Marshal 48 counties are currently under active burn bans, with four more counties going under burn bans on Wednesday morning.
