JOHNSTON, Iowa — On Wednesday LifeServe Blood Center announced it has sent over 250 red blood cells and platelets to areas impacted by Hurricane Milton.

Michael McTaggart named Des Moines’ next Police Chief

LifeServe said the blood products were sent because the blood supply in the affected area is already dangerously low due to Hurricane Helene that made landfall just over a week ago, low donor turnout, and evacuations ahead of the storms.

The blood center is now asking Iowans to sign up and donate blood to help replenish the local blood supply. To learn more about how to donate visit LifeServe Blood Center’s website .
