IOWA CITY, Iowa (WHBF) –The Hawkeyes won game number four of the season, and Kirk Ferentz won game number 200 with Iowa. He reached that milestone for his head coaching career last season against Iowa State, in conjunction with his victories he accumulated at Maine.

Ferentz is one of two coaches to reach 200 at a Big Ten school. He’s now six wins away from passing the great Woody Hayes for most wins of all time in the conference. Ferentz, as some may predict, took no credit.

“You’ve got to be lucky, you got to be in the right place,” Ferentz said. “You’ve got to be with a lot of good people, and that’s coaching staff and support staff. A lot of people are involved in this, and I’ve worked with nothing but great coaches my entire career. And most importantly it’s the players.”

“For me, it’s a true honor to be a part of a team and to be coached by coach Ferentz.” Cade McNamara said.

“We gave him a game ball,” Jay Higgins revealed. “It got pretty wet in there, everybody was throwing water at him. He’s so humble, so nonchalant. The first thing he talked about was us and everything we did well in that game.”

“He’s the same person every day,” Mason Richman said. “He brings the same exact energy, you know what exactly to expect him no matter what the scoreboard says. He’s preaching the same messages to our team.”

The final question of postgame media availability was asked by Iowa’s athletic director Beth Goetz. She walked up to the podium and delivered a message.

“200 moments for all those student athletes and all of those fans that have lived those with you. I’m grateful I’ve gotten to get a few and he’s got more to go, so congratulations.” Goetz said.
