    ‘Killing freeze’ will arrive overnight for most of Iowa

    Des Moines, Iowa — Temperatures dropped below the freezing point in Northern Iowa early Tuesday. This marks the end of the growing season for the northern part of the state.

    A Freeze Warning will start at 1 AM on Wednesday and last until 9 AM for the rest of the state. The Des Moines metro area will experience one of the coldest nights so far this season. Please unhook your garden hose and bring your plants inside.

    The Des Moines metro area tends to be one of the warmest spots in the state with urban heating. It looks like the rest of the state will drop below 32 degrees for several hours overnight. This will lead to a frosty start across Iowa.

    This is typically the time of the year when the first frost/freeze occurs in Iowa. Last year, it took place a couple of weeks later.
